Each consultant will be able to measure your windows, show you our samples of all of our different products, give recommendations and give you prices! Buying from a local company is the best option in almost all situations. Because our factory is local we are able to manufacture our products without having to have them shipped from an out of state manufacturer. This will cut down on installation time. It also makes it so if we need to do warranty work we are able to do it locally without having to ship it out. This cuts down on any repair time and also limits any damage that may be done while being shipped.

The Blindman is proud to offer our own brand of blinds, shutters, and shades, manufactured at our state-of-the-art facility in Lindon, Utah. We have been manufacturing our own brand for 30 years and are positive that our quality is top notch. We also carry many national brands, such as: Hunter Douglas, Comfortex, Graber, and Norman International.

The Blindman offers free in-home estimates to all customers in our service areas. We would be happy to come out and measure your windows for you and show you samples in person! If, for whatever reason, you would like to measure and install your window coverings yourself you definitely can! Just give our office a call at 801-692-2490 with your measurements and we can get you some pricing and get your order into production.

When we send one of our sales representatives out to your home to do the measurement, if the window covering measurement is off and does not fit the window, The Blindman will happily make a new one and make sure that your order is installed 100% to your liking. If you were to do the measurements and it didn’t fit the window, unfortunately you would be responsible for replacing that window covering.

The Blindman has many cord free options for window coverings. Child safety very important to The Blindman and we strive to educate our customers on the dangers of cords in your home, and also offer many different options that are cord free.

Shutters are always a cord free option. Roller shades, roman shades, and cellular shades can be made in a cordless option or a motorized option. We also do blinds that are cordless as long as you also go with a wand tilter instead of the cord tilter.

The Blindman has two different types of shutters: a premium hardwood shutter and a composite shutter.

Our premium hardwood shutter is made of an all-American basswood. Basswood is a North American tree that is known for their sturdy trunks. Basswood has a fine texture, which means they will have a uniform smooth finish, which will add beauty to any shutter. The timber is not as likely to bleed or make excess resin that can affect the finish of the shutter.

Many companies try to claim that MDF is just as durable as solid wood, and since it is much cheaper it makes them a very attractive option to consumers and businesses alike. While MDF does decrease the cost of shutters, the price that you pay in quality is too high. MDF is exponentially heavier than solid woods, which can eventually lead to the shutter panel sagging. Because MDF is virtually particleboard compressed together hairline fractures regularly appear in the shutter where the staples connect the tilt rod, or the hinges are connected. Over time these hairline fractures increase in size until it affects the usability of the shutter. MDF will also absorb moisture like a sponge, making the louvers swell and the paint bubble.

For all of these reasons, The Blindman has decided to not carry an MDF shutter in our product line. Through our decades of knowledge that we have gained through manufacturing and selling window coverings The Blindman strives to only produce the best possible products available.

The Blindman uses a conversion varnish finish. Conversion varnish is more durable and has a higher elasticity which allows it to hold up better through wood joint expansion.

The Blindman shutters are manufactured at our state-of-the-art facility in Lindon, Utah.

Our hardwood comes from a Basswood tree. It is a pure wood that is light and easy to work with. An engineered hardwood is pieces of particleboard that is compressed together to create a wood-like material. For many reasons, The Blindman doesn’t use engineered hardwood. Composite is a substance that is part wood, part vinyl. In our case, our composite shutters have a wood core with a vinyl shell, creating a moisture-resistant shutter. The downside to adding vinyl into a product is it makes the product considerably heavier.

Vinyl is a synthetic man-made material. It is a plastic that is made from ethylene and chlorine. Vinyl is moisture and humidity resistant. Vinyl can also become brittle and yellow in the sun. TBM does not make a pure vinyl shutter for these reasons.

Shutters are excellent insulators as well as perfect for deflecting sunlight. … In addition, you can get mechanical shutters for skylights or windows that receive full sun that open and close automatically to keep the sunshine from heating up your house. In the winter, the shutters provide an added layer of insulation.

Shutter wait time varies depending on the volume we are producing at the time. We usually run 5-6 weeks from order to install, but depending on the volume going through our factory at one time, that can vary. For the best estimate give us a call and we can give you the current lead time!

It is important to understand that The Blindman’s products are high-end. Meaning, we don’t take short cuts with our material or components. So, when comparing prices, make sure you are comparing our price to other companies who have similar qualities. You can’t compare a premium basswood shutter to a manufactured hardwood shutter.

In the window covering world, like many facets of design, you definitely pay for quality! And it’s worth it!

Shutters are the longest lasting window covering on the market. Because it does not have any strings that may break through normal wear and tear, they can truly stand the test of time. If your shutters are taken care of they can last 20+ years!

-Wood Shutters
Dry dust your premium wood plantation shutters with a soft cloth frequently. This will prevent build up and keep your shutters looking wonderful for many years to come! You can also use a soft cloth with a spray furniture polish. You can use a toothbrush and furniture polish to clean in the hard to reach areas, like around the tilt bar. Avoid using water on your premium wood shutters to avoid any sort of warping or cracking.

 -Poly Shutters

Unlike wood shutters, you can use a slightly damp rag on poly wood shutters. The vinyl shell doesn’t warp like a wood shutter would. You can also use a toothbrush and warm soapy water to clean the hard to reach places. You should also be dusting your shutters frequently to keep them looking their best!

Unfortunately, because shutters are custom fit to the specific window, and it has a molding that is connected to the window frame, shutters generally cannot be moved from the window once it is put in.

Maximum panel width on premium wood shutters is 36” and on poly shutters it is 30”.

Yes, new shutters are a lot like putting brand new cabinets in your home. They up the value of the home! They also hold their value for many years to come.

Shutters that only cover about ½ – 2/3 of the window, leaving the top open, are called halfway shutters or café style shutters.

Yes! The beauty of shutters is they can be built to fit almost any specifications! Half round, arch top, angle tops, octagons, and many more shapes can be covered by shutters.
They can only be made in our premium hardwood shutter and aren’t available in the poly wood.

Blinds have strings that hold the slats together. They also have a steel headrail at the top that holds all of the mechanisms in it. Shutters do not have any strings.

As with any hardwood product, the Blindman hardwood shutters should not be exposed to moisture. They will warp and crack if they are exposed to any type of moisture for an extended period of time. If, for whatever reason, your hardwood shutter does get water on it, quickly wipe it away to ensure that it does not absorb into the wood.
We recommend poly shutters in your high moisture areas, such as bathrooms and over kitchen sinks. Because of their vinyl casing that covers the shutters, poly shutters can withstand moisture without warping and cracking.

Here at The Blindman we work to ensure the best product at the best price. We are constantly running some sort of special, so watch close to find one that fits your needs! The poly wood shutter is also the least expensive option of our shutters. Poly wood shutters only come in shades of white, and they are a heavier product (vinyl is much heavier than wood) making the possible span of each panel much less than the hardwood.

The tilt rod is the rod that operates the louvers, tilting them up or down. Traditionally the tilt rod runs down the center of the shutters, creating a sophisticated look. If you would like to not have the tilt rod running down the center of your shutters, we can do a hidden tilt rod. How we accomplish that is by having a small bar run down one of the sides of the louvers, in the back, where it is practically hidden. This is a more modern take on the classic shutter.

If you have a repair on your window covering you may give us a call at 801-692-2490 and we can assist you in getting the repair taken care of. If the window covering has been in your home for over a year, a trip charge will be assessed to come out and either fix your repair or bring it back to the factory. If it is within the year in-home warranty that trip charge is waived.

For any repair that is not under warranty there will be a factory charge for the repair.

The Blindman offers a premium hardwood blind and a composite wood blind. The composite wood is 80% wood 20% vinyl. The composite wood is a great option for bathrooms and over kitchen sinks. The premium hardwood blind is the lightest in weight (the more vinyl you add to a product the heavier it gets) and wears the best on the strings and internal components.

The Blindman offers a 2″ slat and a 2.5″ slat in our blinds.

Roller shades have been on the window covering for years, and have recently received a face lift! Roller shades are screens or fabric that roll at the top and you can be pulled down by hand, a cord, or motorization, to cover your window.

Roller shades come in hundreds of different colors and fabrics. They also come in screens that have different opacities, meaning depending on the screen you go with you can get different amounts of light let in to your room.

Roman shades are a great alternative to drapes, giving you the soft feel that drapes bring, while keeping the functionality of a blind.

Roman shades come in two very different styles. The more traditional hobbled-fold, and the flat-panel. Both offer unique looks to your room.

Cellular shades have been around for decades. Their unique honeycomb shape offers great insulation while the plethora of fabric options makes it so your shades can seamlessly match your decor.

Cellular shades come in a single pleat, single honey comb, or a double honey comb option. They can also be made as a top-down bottom-up shade, a cordless shade, or a motorized shade.

Any of our shades: roller, roman, or cellular, can be done in a black out or room darkening option. While the material is a black out material, there will be about 1/4″ on each side of the shade that will allow light in. We cannot cut the shade tight enough to meet up with your window frame, because windows aren’t completely square, and where it fits the window at one point it may not fit it in others. On roller shades and roman shades this will create a halo effect around the shade, making it not quite a black out.

For wide or heavy window shades that can be difficult to raise and lower, a continuous cord loop can make these a lot easier to operate. Having a cord that is a continuous loop, you pull it with one hand over the other as it move continuously through the loop, as you raise or lower it. It makes operating heavy shades a breeze!

Have you ever wanted to be able to see the view out of the top of your windows and still have the privacy at the bottom? With a top-down bottom-up shade it makes it simple. Simply lower the shade from the top to get your view, and leave the bottom in place to keep the privacy.

Opacity is used to define the opaqueness of a product, or, how much light it will let through. The Blindman carries shades in light filtering, room darkening, and black out.
We also have some shades (mainly roller) that are screens that let different percentages of light through. A 1% opacity would mean it is letting in only 1% of the light, where a 10% opacity is letting in 10%, which is a lot more. If you have a room where you are really worried about a specific light control, a screen with a specific percentage may be just right for you!
